Greenhouse Styled Spring Shoot (Grand Rapids Wedding Photographer)

March 29, 2015

It was a long, cold winter. I was just itching to get back to wedding season, but it still seemed so far away. So of course, I got talking with one of my favorite florists, Tracy Park of Park Place Design, and we schemed up a very spring and green bridal styled shoot that was just perfect for all of those who are just waiting for the leaves to come back.

We set out to add some life back into the dreary Michigan winter and create some spring a little earlier than the Midwest weather usually allows... what better way to do that than to create a styled bridal shoot using a gorgeous greenhouse and more amazing greenery. The setting was the new and beautiful greenhouse at the Downtown Market in Grand Rapids. What a perfect location! Our styled session is meant to represent the regrowth of the spring. It's a different twist on the rustic trend that has been very popular in the past few years. Our twist is less rustic and more nature-inspired. We chose to focus on greenery instead of using bright colors in the floral work and stuck to the monochromatic color scheme to help focus on the greenhouse setting. Green always represents that new life and this was the perfect way to capture that.

Tracy used a great assortment of green things (and a few flowers) to create our tablescape and the bride's accessories. These included kale, eucalyptus, green trick, and even bay leaves! For the few flowers that did make an appearance, she used tulips (so springy!), garden roses, and of course we included the gorgeous succulents. Always a great touch!

The various details you will see on the table were provided by the talented Tracy, and of course I had to have some sweets, so I talked to Barb of It's Personal by Sweet Cakes to set us up. Topped off with some greenery and flowers, they were the perfect touch for the eco-green table set up that Tracy created.

Our gorgeous model, Allie, was just perfect for the part of our beautiful bride. Complete with the wreath of leaves and monotone flowers, her blonde hair and bright smile gave us just the right amount of sunshine for our session. Tracy even made a succulent bracelet and ring for her to sport. Her bohemian style Badgley Mischka dress and cathedral veil completed the look!

What a pleasure to work in this great location with these great people and vendors. Shoots like this are so much fun. I'm so glad we got to do it. Now, bring on the spring... and wedding season!
