Northern Ireland: Dunseverik Ruins (part 2)

May 3, 2023

The first of our elopement retreat locations was absolutely stunning. We drove up to the Dunseverik castle along the coast and it was an absolutely amazing site to see. Though there isn't much of a castle left, you definitely get the feeling of awe as you step out to view the valley, rocky bluffs and the plateau that the castle's remnants still sit upon. What an absolutely gorgeous place.

Dunseverik's remaining ruins are from a castle originally founded as Dunsobairce (Fortress of Sobairce) around 1150 BC. Dun Sobairce ruled Ireland with his brother, Cermna Finn, and resided in the early version of the structure. The castle was further fortified in the 5th century AD, possibly earlier. Despite withstanding attacks by the Vikings hundreds of years prior, it was mostly destroyed in 1642 with one other residential tower holding on until 1978. It has been further deteriorated by weather since then.

Today, the remains of the castle is found in County Antrim, Northern Ireland and is part of the Northern Ireland National Trust, which owns and protects many of the historical coastline sites in the country. It sits atop a high bluff, covered in the spring with a halo of yellow Western Gorse and is open to the Irish Sea, along the Coastal Causeway. We ventured up and down the property for hours with our beautiful models, Terezi and Steph. They were absolutely amazing to work with and the resulting images are nothing if not stunning!

Being a part of this retreat (which is just getting started for you to see!), was such a dream come true. I can't wait to share even more images with you!
