The Bridesmaid Project: part two

Angie Marie Moe

The symbolism of being a bridesmaid harkens back to the ladies-in-waiting who attended to the queen, specifically as part of the royal court during public appearances. As times have changed and royalty is a very uncommon occurrence for us in everyday life, the queen, who is meant to always be the center of attention at the large social gatherings, becomes the bride who is viewed to be the focus of the wedding. After all, she is the one most everyone fawns over, not to mention she gets to wear a gown. So then become those who must “take care of” their mistress, the ladies-in-waiting, the bridesmaids.

The ladies-in-waiting, of lower class and little concern to the queen, have obviously become much more independent in this analogy. And further we must recognize them for the important purpose they serve in the first place. Though the bridesmaids’ rolls as ladies-in-waiting on the day of the wedding are more or less short-lived, still she has come to this position for a specific reason. Without the women who help them to become who they are today, assisting them through the trials and tribulations of life, and who keep themselves unselfishly in the background so that the bride may shine, where would she be?

Thanks again the Shelly with Shelly's Designs for the bouquets to go with the lovely ladies!

The Bridesmaid Project: part one

Judith Ann Cox

The creed of the bridesmaid is never a self-serving one. At all costs, make the bride happy. After all, the bride is the one who is always the center of attention in each and every wedding. However, as part of making the bride happy, the bridesmaid must herself be beautiful. She must carry herself with poise and confidence, she must follow direction and act accordingly througout the day, she must be at her utmost best in order only to fall into the background.

Maria Tejada: Actress

March 3, 2010

Back in the day (okay so it was only four years ago... but that seems like a long time anyway!) I was the roommate of a fun, spunky girl named Maria. We spent two years of college sharing a room and one other as suitemates, and although for our senior year our paths parted ways a bit, we still kept in touch. Maria was one of my artsy friends (being that I was a photography major, I had quite a few!) but she was in the performing arts, as a theater student. I went to multiple theater shows put on by Grand Valley with her and even got to see her perform in a lot as well.

Well it was a shoot three years in the making, but Maria finally came back to GR for me to do her headshots. It took us a little while to get my lighting equipment to cooperate, but once we got that locked down and I finally stopped using my tripod (it's such a hinderance for me, I do so much better without it so I can't figure out why I always insist on starting out with it for portraits...), we got some great shots!

Special thanks to my "offical" employers, Dooge Veneers, for letting me use my work office as a studio set up. It is really the perfect place to do photography, I might have to do this again soon...

The photo you see above is the one she chose to print, but take a look at a few more that we liked from the session.

I had to include this one, this is just pure Maria, just how I remember her from our college days.
