Josh & Samantha: Engaged (Grand Rapids Wedding Photographer)

June 16, 2012

Every now and then, you have to work a little harder to get some good shots. That is what Samantha, Josh and myself had to do. We had about a mile walk through the Rosy Mound Natural Area in West Olive to get to the beach... and there were a LOT of stairs. Not to mention that at 9am, it was already in the 80's! After all that walking, due to the predicted rain (or so I'm told), the flies in the grasses between the woods and beach were CRAZY about us! They chased us the whole time. But Josh and Samantha were troopers, and somehow, we managed. I love their interaction with each other, and it definitely wasn't all seriousness. Some of the cute laughs and faces make for my favorite shots.

These two are cute and I love their story. Both went to college up in the U.P., Josh at Michigan Tech and Samantha at Northern. Samantha's brother (who's name is also Josh, actually), also went to Tech and was roommates with our Josh. That's how the two of them met, and they've been together every since! They will be getting married in December - yay! a winter wedding! - and I can't wait to be a part of it!

^If you haven't had to do it on camera, staring into each other's eyes is pretty hard at first :-)

^Being silly!

^Such a cute couple!

^Yes, we had to walk back UP this... and it was hotter on the way back!

^This is where the flies found us...

^Beautiful Lake Michigan.

^I "made" this chalkboards for the occasion :-)

^We are incorporating both the beach and the winter, since they are getting married in December!

^Save the Date!

^Love the colorful outfits! Great choices, you two!

^Samantha's bling ;-)

Ryan & Bethany: Engaged (Grand Rapids Wedding Photographer)

June 15, 2012

Ryan and Bethany had a friend take their engagement photos, and they are hilarious. I totally wish I could post a link because they are seriously so much fun. Not only did their photos turn out super cute (their Save the Date is on my fridge at home because I love it so much), but they are just plain funny! You can tell that these two have a great sense of humor. Although they were much more tame for our quick mini-shoot (which was mostly for access card and blogging purposes), Bethany told me that Ryan asked what sort of fun and awesome props he could bring along for their session. I totally can't wait for their wedding in September. Not only are they getting married at a great venue, the Apple Blossom Chapel in Fennville, but they are a very charming couple with lots of fun ideas. Also their are adorable, so there's that. Congrats, you two, and we'll see you both again soon!

^It was HOT when we did this shoot, so the shade was definitely our friend!

^Love this lounging shot.

^Blue sky, and love :-)

Couple of the Month - June (part 2)

Scott and Janae

We've got ANOTHER great couple to feature as Couple of the Month for June. Since I have two wedding the first weekend in August, we have two couples to feature as well. Today, you get to meet Scott and Janae. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why I think Scott and Janae are perfect for each other. Honestly, I just can't do it. It must be the way they interact with one another. The way they interact with me while they are together. Whatever it is, they are a great couple, no doubt about it. They also really seem to know what they want, with their wedding and life. I feel like they've definitely got a handle on things! We're looking forward to a warm and happy day over there in Lapeer come August 4. I'm already getting anxious for it!

Martens Family (Grand Rapids Family Photography)

June 7, 2012

It's always so much fun to work with local vendors. I met Emily a month or so back when I helped out with some shots for her website. Although I don't think it's quite done yet, I had a blast meeting her and photographing all the tasty treats from Little Pearl Cupcake (yes, they are tasty, she let me take quite a few home after the shoot!). But this time, she brought her adorable kids for photos instead. Dylan and Lily were great to work with (even if poor Dylan wasn't feeling that great) and even for a quick shoot, we had lots of fun. We took photos near the barn at Bernard J Thome Orchards. I love working their, it's such a gorgeous orchard. Plus Bernie (as well as his daughter - friend, second shooter, and graphic designer extraordinaire, Kristin Huyck) is a great, friendly person and I love chatting with him!

Anyway, thank you to Emily, Lily, and Dylan for coming out for photos. I am looking forward to working with you in the future, too, Emily. You all know how I love cupcakes!

^Probably the most gorgeous family photo ever! ;-)

^He still had a smile for me!

^Such a cute duo.

^Absolutely LOVE Lily's headband! I might have to get one myself! Fancy That Designs in Rockford :-)

^A happy family!

^Standing in front of the Thome barn, originally build in... you guessed it, 1883!

^They loved the old car, so we made sure to stop by!

^Thanks again, Emily!
