The Bridesmaid Project
Since it's winter and the ususal wedding season isn't going to be starting up for a few months now, I'm just ITCHING to do a photo project that involves all the prettiness of weddings without actually having to put one on. Introducing: THE BRIDESMAID PROJECT
Every wedding has it's players; the obvious bride and groom are always the center of attention. But some of the beauty of the wedding gets overlooked when it comes to the bridesmaid. They help the bride become who she is on her special day, by being a great support system of friendship and that extra help they provide to get her looking her most beautiful.
In honor of the ladies who do their very best only to end up being the background of the wedding, I'm assembling a team of models (some of my closest friends!) and getting them all dressed up and decked out for a series of portraits, showing how beautiful NOT wearing that white dress can be!
The special "single ladies" in the line-up (oh and not to mention my wonderful assistant Josh who is going to be our male model for the shoot :), who are not all necessarily single, are playing the part of the pretty girls who are finally getting their turn in the spotlight. A friend of mine in the florist business has offered to help out with the added floral touches (I can't wait to see her creative touch, she's really amazing!) and we'll be getting this thing together at a location (yet undisclosed) but one that is BEAUTIFUL and I have been dying to shoot at for awhile now.
It's been a LONG time since I did a photo PROJECT, like ones back in college, but I'm going to write the literature that goes along with it and put the finished product together in a book that will be on display at my first foray into the wedding expo this March. I can't wait to see what comes up!

New from the Kazakos Wedding
Niko & Katie
Being that it's winter and there are less weddings and photo jobs for me to do, I get a little antsy to do some creating. I think I'm going to use some of my free time creating some collages and such from my 2009 weddings (hey, who knows, maybe I'll even dip into 2007 and 2008!) to post for you all to see. They are mostly just images put together but it always gives them a little kick to pair things that may not have ever been next to each other before.
I met Katie and Niko the day of their rehearsal. They are such a cute couple, and Katie and her dress were so pretty. I got a lot more great shots than I realized at the time. The wedding was held at the Saint Mary's Cathedral in downtown Grand Rapids and their reception was at Noto's Old World Italian Restaurant on 28th Street.
Click the photos to see them in full screen.
First, we have Katie's little neice. She was adorable and LOVED the camera!
Katie and her bridesmaids got their hair and make-up done at Design One.
One of my favorite series of the year, and the one of Katie's necklace is one of my favorite photos of the year!
St. Mary's has BEAUTIFUL stained glass windows, an amazing cathedral.
Katie's huge and pretty bouquet.
They are so cute together!
Having fun in downtown GR at the walking bridge (it's a wedding photo staple!)
Details from the reception at Noto's.
First dance, the expressions are perfect.

Daniel & Jilleen's Engagement
December 29, 2009
For my last session of the year, I had the pleasure of working with my first couple (at least for now!) who's wedding I will be photographing in the new year (June 18, 2010!). I've been corresponding with Jilleen back and forth for months now, and FINALLY Daniel had some time to come to Michigan from his Marine base in California. We decided to do a fun outside shoot, just so he could get a good taste of chilly weather before going back to warmer climates.
Jilleen and Daniel kindly drove out to meet me on my lunch break (now more time off after that vacation I took early in December!) and we did a quick engagement shoot at the Endeavor Elementary School playground. Their equipment has such fun colors and geometry, I figured it would be a great place for some playful people to get some playful pictures!
The sun decided to show it's face in all it's glory, which made for some tricky shadows, but it also made for some BEAUTIFUL and rich colors, especially in the sky, so we definitely made the best of it. I had a blast despite the freezing temperatures, so thanks Jilleen and Daniel! I can't wait to photograph your wedding!
P.S. Yay for my first post of 2010. Happy New Year, everyone!
