Joe & Trisha's Maternity Session

March 28, 2010

It's always exciting to get to do something new: finding a new and awesome location, meeting new people, and getting to do photo shoots that are a little out of the ordinary. This weekend, I headed back to my hometown of Harrison to visit friends, family, and to do a fun session with one of my former wedding couples.

Joe & Trisha were married last fall, with me in attendance, and of course it was exciting to find out that they will be welcoming little Joe Jr. into the world in late May or early June. To celebrate the time in between, we did a maternity photo session of their whole new family in their home. We did a few of Trisha and her adorable baby belly (she's such a cute mommy-to-be!), a few with her and Joe, and of course a couple with their cute doggy, Buddy, who was totally interested in the whole thing!

I want to say a big thanks to Joe and Trisha (and little Joe Jr and Buddy!) for helping me out in doing my first session like this. I've seen ones done before and I was so excited to get to do one of my own. The photos turned out beautiful, and I especially love some of the black and white versions! Trisha is a beautiful mom and Joe is such an excited dad! I'm so happy for both of you!

^To these little things, Joe said "My son will NOT be wearing anything like that!" Haha, thanks Joe!

Big Happenings for JRPhoto

March 22, 2010

It's starting out to be another great year Jenna Rose Photography, so I want to thank all my couples and families in advanced! In order to make everything even better for everyone, I'm now in the works of launching a brand new website, one that will compliment my work even more and give my clients even more to see!

I'd first like to thank my friend Misty from Misty Minna Photography for her advice and helpful suggestions. She's recently redone her own site as well and it's beautiful! I only hope mine will hold a candle to hers. Misty and I have been chatting lately and her new business strategies have inspired to make some new ones of my own.

In other news, I've got a brand new photo shoot set up for early May. I'll be working with Jenn at Modern Day Floral and Maggie from the Renee Austin Bridal Boutique to do a shoot featuring a couple of my lovely models. It'll be a fun cross between my Bridesmaid Project and a Trash the Dress session (although we're not trashing anything here, Renee Austin has been so kind as to lend us some beautiful gowns that we wouldn't dream of ruining!). It's going to be a great shoot so check back in May for that special feature!

Keep an eye out for updates, and look for my new site, which I'm planning to launch by the end of April, just in time for my first wedding of the year, Donna and Peter. AND we've got a whole new round of engagement and family sessions planned for the next few months. It's going to be a great year!

The Bridesmaid Project: part four

Jenna Rose Photography

Yet somehow, through all the planning (and the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into said planning), when the day finally comes, the wedding itself somehow manages to remind you what all of it was for. Watching the bride and groom say their vows, the way they look into each other’s eyes, how they hold each other during their first dance, reminds everyone that no matter how much or how little you put into the event, it all culminates into your desire to express your love for your partner.

Being a bridesmaid, for those who haven’t had their turn as the bride, may sometimes be a bit of a hard reminder. Women put so much stock into finding a mate and being married that a wedding can turn even further from being seen as a momentous occasion to showcase a couple’s love for one another into something difficult to bear. No matter which viewpoint one subscribes to, being a bridesmaid comes down to one thing and one thing alone, the thing that does not necessarily compare to the romantic love that the wedding itself is meant to showcase but supplements it greatly; FRIENDSHIP. When you choose the girls to stand up with you on one of the biggest days of your life to date, you choose those who mean the most to you, the ones who have been with you through thick and thin, the ones who you hope to always be able to call friend. And even though she has to take a backseat to her friend, that is why being a bridesmaid is such an honor.

Thank you to the JW Marriott in downtown Grand Rapids for providing the beautiful setting for our photo shoot.

Once again, thanks to Shelly' s Design Florist for the fabulous bouquets.

^That's me!

And just because, here are a few of all of us, having fun in our room! What a great birthday project for me!

Thanks, my lovely friends!!!!

The Bridesmaid Project: part three

Kristin Rae Oole

In today’s society, the fact that the wedding industry has become so very populated with big, elaborate and expensive wedding days is hard to ignore. The flowers, the hall, the caterer, the favors, the dress, the tuxes, the photographer, the cake, the entertainment… the list goes on and on. The amount of time, energy, and money put into these parties seems almost to take away from the true meaning of the day in the first place, LOVE.

Once again, special thanks to Shelly's Designs of Grand Rapids for the beautiful flowers.
